THE LEICA HERMES M9

A piece of technology and elegance, the Leica M9 Hermes is a double symbolic project.

It is the result of collaboration between two historical houses: the expertise of leather and that of photography come together to create an object with its simple design.

It is also a nod to the past:

In the 1980s, Jean-Louis Dumas, who has a passion for travel and photography, decided to buy Leica in order to save the brand, which was undergoing a financial setback.

He will be obliged to let it few years later

GOLD is running out…

If developing countries reach the level of copper consumption in developed countries, the red mineral resources should be exhausted the next forty years.

As for the rhodium (used in the manufacture of white gold) and platinum, both extremely rare, they may disappear within a century.

Currently, the two metals are extracted from a single vein, already exploited for more than 50%.

Beyond the environmental and social risks, resources are running out :  Mines eco craft with which collaborates JEM have less impact than that of the gold mining industry (which provides an overview of the photograph).

The handcrafted gold of JEM comes from human scale mines. the gold is extracted by hand, allowing to minimize impacts on the environment. JEM built a relationship of solidarity with the miners, involved in finding solutions to the challenges facing the sector jewellery.

To date, the best solution is the systematic recycling of metals to reduce the demand for new ore. That’s why JEM, outside its ethical gold, only uses recycled metals and plotted in its collections.

Ornaments have not always been made of gold and precious stones …

In ancient Egypt, rings were made in ceramic.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the gilded terracotta was used to imitate gold.

Often used by jewellery artisans for its fragility and also for its resistance, porcelain has been honoured in the Decorative Arts.

18 young creators invited by the museum, reinterpret the traditional codes of jewellery: their creations diverse from conventional jewellery techniques, halfway between art and design.

Historically associated with tableware, porcelain has become an object of desire….

This exhibition is the experimentation of a new kind of jewellery: it is not longer just a personal adornment,  it becomes a peace of art.
